In a previous tutorial we discussed the difference between the Event List and the Piano Roll, and reasons you may want to use the Event List over the Piano Roll. Given that previous discussion, we’ll discuss how to make the Event List work better with VoiceOver while the annoying behavior discussed previously still exist.
This annoying behavior in question the fact that every time you navigate in the Event List with VO Left/Right or Vo Up/Down the Event List will sound the note you are on. In fact it sounds the note each time Voice Over speaks. This gets exponentially more annoying if you still have VoiceOver hints on. So in this tutorial there is a brief overview of how to turn hints off.
To do this, press VO F8 to open VoiceOver Utilities, or VoiceOver settings as some may think of it. Then press Command 2 to get to the Verbosity category and navigate over an to hints and select it with VO Space. Vo Right and disable the different hints and help tags that VoiceOver speak. Now when you navigate in the Event List, the note should only sound once per movement or navigation.
If you like having hints or help tags on you may want to consider setting up a VoiceOver Activity, the fancy name for an application specific VoiceOver setting, to have hints off while in Logic. This tutorial gives an example of how to set up an Activity, so use those steps along with the ones outlined in this tutorial to make this happen.
