Discord

Join the discord community as it is a place for blind users to discuss all things using Logic Pro with VoiceOver. The server is open to everyone, but also includes some members' only channels as well. (become a member here.)

Discord is also where one on one training will be done as well.

So What Is Discord?

If you have used services and apps like Team Talk or Team Speak, then you are probably already relatively familiar with what discord is. You can also think about it as having some similar functionality to apps and services like Teams or Zoom.

The heart of Discord are servers, and each server is made up of channels. If you are completely new to this concept, think of discord servers as a specific website. You visit a specific website like TheBlindLogicPro to read and learn about an over arching topic like using Logic Pro as a blind user. On that website, there are gonna be different pages or post covering more specific topics like how to record in Logic Pro with a screen reader or how to edit etc.

So TheBlindLogicPro server is the over arching location that you will land on, and the channels on the server are different pages or places you can go on that server to discuss, read about or ask question relating to a specific topic. For example, got a general question about how to do something in Logic Pro? Then head to the Logic Pro Help channel. Want to discuss Plug ins or Virtual instruments? Go to the Virtual Instruments and Plug ins channel. Interested in talking about recording guitars? Then the Recording Guitars Channel is the place to be.

Channels make it easy to have a specific place for a specific topic. it helps keep things organized and as each channel is searchable, it makes it so one can try to look up info that has been discussed previously.

Channels are not just for text as their are voice channels as well. Voice Channels are places where people can hang out and chat in real time. The Lounge voice channel for example is a channel where people can simply hang out and chat with each other. The study room channels are there in case a couple people would like to chat about a project they are working on together, go over concepts together or one person can show another or teach another something they are doing in a project or with Logic etc. This is made even more possible by how easy Discord makes it to stream your system audio so the other person can not only hear your Logic Pro output but your screen reader as well to follow what you are doing. This is a big part of why Discord is now used for one on one training.

So Discord is made up of servers which are destinations that include multiple channels, text and voice, where discussions can be held on topics relative to the server’s main subject matter. Joining a server lets you “bookmark it’ in Discord so you can return to it quickly and easily. It also allows you to be notified when someone post in a channel, joins a voice channel, replies to one of your post, mentions you (similar to social media), and etc. You can manage your notifications as well so you are in control of which ones you’l receive. Discord even allows for direct messaging other users and one on one voice and video calls as well. Oh yeah, you can also choose to be on video in voice channels but you can imagine no one really does that on TheBlindLogicPro server.

If you haven’t yet, download discord.
While discord has apps available both for mobile and desktop, It’s required to use the desktop (MacOS) version for one on one training, especially since it allows you to stream your logic audio with out needing any third party software.
