Daily Accountability Song 1 Part 4 Editing With Locators

Watch As I Edit The Verse Using Logic Pro's Locators To Quickly Copy OR Delete Sections Of THe Song!

In this Daily Accountability outing we will edit the verse performance. The verse starts at bar 33 and goes to bar 49. It’s broken down in four segments that are 4 bars each. Or two different 4 bar segments repeated once to make the 4 bars.

Bars 33 to 37 and bars 41 to 45 are the same. Likewise Bar 37 to 41 and bars 45 to 49 are the same.

As Bar 33 to 37 isn’t very tight, but the performance from bar 41 to 45 is, the goal hear is to copy bars 41 to 45 and paste them at bar 33 to replace the bars from 33 to 37.

Likewise the performance from Bars 37 to 41 is better so I want to copy those 4 bars and paste them at bar 45 to replace the bars from 45 to 49.

This is done using Locators and the key commands to copy between locators on selected tracks,, delete between locators on selected tracks, and paste. I also take advantage of the tracks being in a track stack and close the track stack and then move off and back on to the track stack to select all the regions in the track stack.

I can then set my locators and copy, delete and or paste to do this editing.

Go in depth and check out how powerful locators are in this tutorial.

Key Commands

Type in a bar or measure to jump to Slash

Open/Close A Track Stack Option Accent

Set Left Locator at playhead Command Option Left Bracket

Set Right Locator at playhead Command Option Right Bracket

Go To Left Locator Command Option Home (F2 Will announce Left Locator without moving to it)

Go TO Right Locator Command Option End (F3 will announce right Locator with out moving to it)

FN Left arrow is home on a laptop keyboard and FN Right arrow is end on a laptop keyboard

Delete Between Locators on selected tracks Control Shift Option Forward Delete (Forward Delete is the Delete key above the arrow keys on a full sized keyboard. Use FN BackSpace or FN Delete if on a Laptop keyboard)

Copy between locators on selected tracks Control Shift Option C

Paste at playhead Command V

Move Locators Forward by Cycle Length Command Shift Period

Move Locators Back by Cycle Length Command Shift Comma

Moving Locators by cycle length means the locators move by how long they are set to. So if the Right Locator is 4 bars a way from the left locator it will move the Locators 4 bars at a time. If the Left Locator and right locator are 2 bars apart it will move the locators by 2 bars.

Case in point if your left locator is at bar 5 and the right locator is at bar 7, it will move the locators forward or back by two bars when you use the key command.

These key commands require LogicKeyboardNinja and Logic Magician. The Logic Magician page has more info and Logic Magician also installs LogicKeyboardNinja.
