A new era of Logic Pro is here! Logic Pro for iPad and Logic Pro for Mac move closer to each other in features and functionality, as the Mac version gains long-awaited features like the updated and unified browser with its natural language search, updates to the Musical Typing keyboard, and a host of Apple Intelligence and Apple Intelligence-assisted features. In addition, the look of the inspector and the control bar has been updated.
As exciting as some of these new features are, and there are tutorials coming on all of this, Logic Magician will definitely need an update to be fully functional with the new version. So here is a brief overview of what works and what doesn’t.
Oh, and to everyone in the ongoing Live Class, remember our next class is tomorrow, November 7th, at 1 PM PST / 4 PM EST.
Back Up Logic Pro Before You Update
Remember, before updating, back up Logic Pro. I’ll also update this post with new issues as they are found. If you catch anything I missed, leave a comment or hit reply and let me know.
What Partially Works
Solo, mute, volume, pan and adjusting send levels still work, but there is no spoken feedback.
While adjusting volume works and just doesn’t speak, adjusting region gain on audio regions or velocity on MIDI regions will not work with the Logic Magician key command. There is, however, a LogicKeyboardNinja key command that still works, though no spoken feedback is given. Command Option Shift Up Arrow and Down Arrow move in 1 dB increments, and Command Option Shift Left Arrow and Right Arrow move in smaller increments.
Still Fully Functional
The following all still seem to be working: I and O to speak or open the inputs and outputs for the selected tracks; all the key commands to add, select, open, bypass and remove plug-ins and sends; moving to the next or previous region or note with the Left Arrow and Right Arrow keys; and the Piano Roll functions.
What’s Not Working Right Now
As the inspector has a brand-new layout, any Logic Magician key command that relies on the inspector will not work. This includes, for example, Control 1 through 0 for the region inspector and Control Shift 1 through 0 for the track inspector. Control bar key commands, like those using F1 through F12 and Shift Slash, also won’t work at the moment.
What Comes Next
As Logic Pro 13 has only been out for about a day as of this writing, we are still investigating and formulating a plan, and an update will be forthcoming. It’s too soon to have a timeline, and we probably won’t have one until after the weekend. The release notes do tout a handful of VoiceOver improvements that I haven’t had time to fully investigate yet, so there may be further improvements awaiting us.
