The verse starts at bar 33 and goes to bar 49. It’s broken down in four segments that are 4 bars each. Or two different 4 bar segments repeated once to make the 4 bars.

Bars 33 to 37 and bars 41 to 45 are the same. Likewise Bar 37 to 41 and bars 45 to 49 are the same.

As Bar 33 to 37 isn’t very tight, but the performance from bar 41 to 45 is, the goal hear is to copy bars 41 to 45 and paste them at bar 33 to replace the bars from 33 to 37.

Likewise the performance from Bars 37 to 41 is better so I want to copy those 4 bars and paste them at bar 45 to replace the bars from 45 to 49.

This is done using Locators and the key commands to copy between locators on selected tracks,, delete between locators on selected tracks, and paste. I also take advantage of the tracks being in a track stack and close the track stack and then move off and back on to the track stack to select all the regions in the track stack.

I can then set my locators and copy, delete and or paste to do this editing.

Go in depth and check out how powerful locators are in this tutorial.

Key Commands

Type in a bar or measure to jump to Slash

Open/Close A Track Stack Option Accent

Set Left Locator at playhead Command Option Left Bracket

Set Right Locator at playhead Command Option Right Bracket

Go To Left Locator Command Option Home (F2 Will announce Left Locator without moving to it)

Go TO Right Locator Command Option End (F3 will announce right Locator with out moving to it)

FN Left arrow is home on a laptop keyboard and FN Right arrow is end on a laptop keyboard

Delete Between Locators on selected tracks Control Shift Option Forward Delete (Forward Delete is the Delete key above the arrow keys on a full sized keyboard. Use FN BackSpace or FN Delete if on a Laptop keyboard)

Copy between locators on selected tracks Control Shift Option C

Paste at playhead Command V

Move Locators Forward by Cycle Length Command Shift Period

Move Locators Back by Cycle Length Command Shift Comma

Moving Locators by cycle length means the locators move by how long they are set to. So if the Right Locator is 4 bars a way from the left locator it will move the Locators 4 bars at a time. If the Left Locator and right locator are 2 bars apart it will move the locators by 2 bars.

Case in point if your left locator is at bar 5 and the right locator is at bar 7, it will move the locators forward or back by two bars when you use the key command.

These key commands require LogicKeyboardNinja and Logic Magician. The Logic Magician page has more info and Logic Magician also installs LogicKeyboardNinja.

Remember, if you want to go in depth with how to edit with Locators and see a lot more possibilities than what’s showcased here, check out this member’s area tutorial.

Daily Accountability Song 1 Part 3 How TO Automate Pan With 1 And 2 Automation Points Using Key Commands And VoiceOver For Blind Logic Pro Users

Learn The Difference Between 1 and 2 Automation Points As Well As How To Auto Select The Parameter To Automate In Read Mode

TheOreoMonster

This is a great example of using automation points or automation snapshots or envelopes has it may be called in other DAW. Since we are working with Pan in this case we will be using Control Command 3 and Control Command 4 as those are the key commands to drop automation points for volume, pan and or sends.

Control Command 3 will drop a single automation point and is useful for when we want to hear the track pan from let to right over the course of a bar or 2 or more. You will want to drop one automation point where you want the movement to start and another where you want the movement to end.

Control Command 4 will be useful when we want to have a parameter snap from one side to the other. For example wanting to hear something go from being all the way on the right to all the way on the left.

To get started, enable “Autoselect Automation Parameter in Read Mode” under the mix menu if its not enabled already and then press A to make automation visible.

I find that it’s a good idea to set the parameter where you want it to start at the start of the song and drop two automation points there. So in this case at bar 1, I’ll set the. Pan to be all the way left, and press Control Command 4 to drop two automation points there.

Due to having Autoselect Automation Parameter in Read Mode” enabled, moving the pan parameter in this case also has the added benefit of letting Logic know this is the parameter we will be automating. This saves us the step of manually having to select that parameter first before pressing Control Command 4. We can just adjust the parameter and then press Control Command 4 because Logic learned by us moving the Pan parameter that it’s the parameter we plan to automate.

Next we’ll move the playhead to where we want to have the guitars snap to be all the way right, move the pan value to be all the way right, and drop two automation points. Again, move to where you want to have the guitar on the left, move the pan all the way to the left again and drop two automation points.

For the parts where we want the guitar to audibly sweep from the Left to the right we’ll use 1 automation point. Set one point where you want it to start panning for example at bar 7, then move to where you want it to stop panning, for example bar 9, then adjust the pan parameter to the value you want it to stop panning at, for example all the way right, and drop one automation point again. Command Control 3 is the key Command for one automation point.

## Key Commands

Show/Hide Automation A

Create 1 Track Automation Point each for Volume, Pan, Sends Command Control 3

Create 2 Track Automation Points each for Volume, Pan, Sends Command Control 4

Autoselect Automation Parameter in Read Mode is found under the mix menu

There are also tutorials on automating volume and using automation to do a filter sweep.

Daily Accountability Song 1 Part 2 Working On the Intro

watch as I start to work on a song from scratch.

LogicBand

watch as I start to work on a song from scratch. If there is a day where i can spend an hour or two or more on it, sure I’ll do that too, but at the very least I’d like to work on it little by little every day.

I have come to find consistent progress is greater than spending big lump sums of time on a project. Even if you only get to work on it once a week, showing up each week at the same time, every time for a minimum specified time still yields better results than not having a set time and only diving into it when you get to it. Put it on your calendar so time is blocked out, set reminders, set up a focus or do not disturb for that time to minimize distractions. Treat it like a doctor’s appointment you can’t miss. etc. Do what you can to develop a habit of consistency to show up on schedule and work on things.

Since I have this newsletter and channel and etc I figured another way to build accountability and hold myself to it is sharing my progress publicly. I am however purposely making this it’s own newsletter so only those who are interested in following my progress and or joining in and working on something will see it. That way for those not interested in following along, you can still get all the usual tutorials from TheBlindLogicPro without seeing the daily accountability emails.

TO be able to start quickly I am choosing to start the song off using a template. In my case it’s a template I created, and I encourage starting from a template as well when you can. Even if you use one of the stock logic templates instead of building your own, or start with a stock logic template and customize it into your own and save that as a template you can use going forward.

Remember when setting up your template you can use option M to toggle disabling or enabling tracks. This way you can add a few options to the template, just be careful to not add too many options as remember the point of this is to be Abel to work quickly.

Check out how this template was made, along with a detailed tutorial on how to save and update a template.

As I record a lot of guitars, I updated this template to have a MIDI Software Instrument track in it that i can use to quickly tune my guitar. If you want to see an example of how I use a MIDI piano track as a pitch reference to tune check out this tutorial.

Lastly, participate in the conversation on the LogicBand discord server in the session planning channel. Share what you are working on, your progress, where you are getting stuck, what’s holding you up etc, and lets make more music together.
