This tutorial explores what its purpose is, and things to be aware of if using this feature.

If you choose to use this feature, Logic will bounce or render all the files you are importing into a single audio file, and use that file for tempo analysis. This audio file ends up on a track in the project so you may want to mute that tracks as to not have a double of all your tracks playing.

You may have noticed I mentioned audio files. This is because MIDI files usually have tempo info that Logic can import and you would usually be prompted to do so when importing a MIDI file, especially into a blank project.

It is possible for audio files to have tempo information embedded as well, but this is not as common. When Logic detects tempo info whether in a MIDI or audio file it usually asks if you would like to set the project to that tempo or adjust the file to the existing project tempo.

Daily Accountability Song 1 Part 10 Re-Arranging Plus Copying And Pasting the Fills In the Intro Drums

Part 2 of working on the intro Ddrum fills, follow along as I quickly re-arrange the order the fills are in and copy and paste them to the second half of the intro.

TheOreoMonster

Part 2 of working on the intro Ddrum fills, follow along as I quickly re-arrange the order the fills are in and copy and paste them to the second half of the intro.

Daily Accountability Song 1 Part 9 Getting Fills Going In The Intro

Follow along as the fills in the intro are edited to work with the track.

TheOreoMonster

Follow along as the fills in the intro are edited to work with the track. I find in my time doing one on one training that most are aware of only one of these options and depending on what you are doing and which project you are opening, like in the case of a recent project, there may be a faster way than the one you been using. I didn’t cover pressing Command O to bring up the open dialog in Logic as I believe thats the most common, but if you aren’t aware of it, when you have Logic open, you can press Command O to bring up a dialog where you can navigate to and open a project.

The ones I do cover is using the File Menu. This is VO M to get to the menus, then right arrow over to File, then down arrow to Open Recent. Use the right arrow to open the sub menu and down arrow to the project you would like and press return to open it.

Also demonstrated is using Command N, choosing recent from the table and using VO J twice to jump into the section or collection with the recent projects. Navigate to the one you want to open with VO Left/Right and stop interacting with the section or collection and then navigate to the open button at the bottom of the window, and VO Space on it to open the project. You can get there faster with VO End, (VO FN Right arrow on laptop keyboard layouts), and then VO left to the open button if in the current version of Logic 12. Otherwise VO End may take you right to the open button.

The other option discussed is using the Finder to navigate to your logic projects and choose the one you may want to open. This may be more useful for non recent projects. By default Logic Projects are stored in the Logic Folder in the Music Folder in your Home folder. In Finder or on the Desktop, press Command Shift H to get to your Home folder. Then navigate to the Music folder and in there will be the Logic folder.

If you have any follow up questions be sure to leave a comment or hit reply and let me know.

19 Editing Chords With Key Commands For Blind Logic Users And A Tip For Those Without Perfect Pitch

This tutorial continues our module on working with the Chord Track and covers editing chords but this time focusing more on key commands

TheOreoMonster

This tutorial continues our module on working with the Chord Track and covers editing chords but this time focusing more on key commands

Key Commands Used:

Thanks for reading The Blind Logic Pro! Given that previous discussion, we’ll discuss how to make the Event List work better with VoiceOver while the annoying behavior discussed previously still exist.

This annoying behavior in question the fact that every time you navigate in the Event List with VO Left/Right or Vo Up/Down the Event List will sound the note you are on. In fact it sounds the note each time Voice Over speaks. This gets exponentially more annoying if you still have VoiceOver hints on. So in this tutorial there is a brief overview of how to turn hints off.

To do this, press VO F8 to open VoiceOver Utilities, or VoiceOver settings as some may think of it. Then press Command 2 to get to the Verbosity category and navigate over an to hints and select it with VO Space. Vo Right and disable the different hints and help tags that VoiceOver speak. Now when you navigate in the Event List, the note should only sound once per movement or navigation.

If you like having hints or help tags on you may want to consider setting up a VoiceOver Activity, the fancy name for an application specific VoiceOver setting, to have hints off while in Logic. This tutorial gives an example of how to set up an Activity, so use those steps along with the ones outlined in this tutorial to make this happen.

18 How TO Edit Select Copy And Paste Chords In The Chord Track For Blind Logic Users With VOiceOver

This tutorial continues on with the exploration of the chord track and now moves into editing chords plus copying and pasting Chords. I took time off from the music industry from the mid 90s to 2018, long enough to keep a day job and raise my daughter.

These days, I create immersive music for wellness, sleep, and relaxation, blending Eastern and Western influences to reach hospitals, therapy spaces, and listeners seeking calm.

Thanks to Logic Pro, I can now do things I never could when I was a session musician in the early 90s.

I’m completely blind, and so the accessibility and compatibility Apple has built into Logic Pro has made modern music production possible for me.

The folks at TheBlindLogicPro here on Substack have leveled up the game even further using their tool Logic Magician, which turns a whole lot of repetitive tasks into just a few workflow-friendly keystrokes. Since I have to listen to VoiceOver, as a blind user, they are able to keep the voice out of the way while I’m mixing and making fine adjustments to my work.

And now, since discovering this community, I’ve really appreciated seeing the perspectives of so many other blind Logic Pro users, something that has been very hard for me to find in the past. Everyone using the software in a different way, bringing new ideas and techniques to the table. Logic Magician / Keyboard Ninja has certainly accelerated my workflows in ways I formerly couldn’t imagine!

As an expression of gratitude for this, and for this community, I have compiled some patches using only Logic Pro stock plug-ins, all of which appear in my catalog on various tracks. Many of which I modify and use on a regular basis.

Thank you all for the back-and-forth with the questions, ideas, workflow improvements and so much more!

Instructions For Using the Patches And Presets

A copy of these instructions are also found in the About And How TO Install text file included in the folder of patches and presets that you can download here. There is also a read me file included with more details on the patches and presets.

The read Me included in this folder has more details on the patches. This serves as a how to guide on getting the patches and presets ready to go in Logic Pro.

You will need to copy the DLB patches folder to

~/Music/Audio Music Apps/Patches/Instrument/

And the Modifier presets to

~/Music/Audio Music Apps/Plug-In Settings/

Detailed instructions on how to do this is below.

First lets copy the DLB patches folder to where it needs to be.

1) If you haven’t yet, command tab to finder. You can also press VO Shift D to go to the desktop.

2) Once in Finder or the Desktop, Command Option L and it should take you to your Downloads folder.

3) up or down arrow to find the DLB Patches From TheBlindLogicPro folder, then press right arrow to enter the folder. If it’s a .zip file, you can press command down arrow on it to unzip it. Once unzipped you can press right arrow to enter the folder.

4) Down arrow until you find the DLB Patches folder, and press command C to copy it.

5) Press Command Shift H to go to your Home folder. This is the Folder with your name.

6) Press Command 3 to enter Columns view. Please do not skip this step as the instructions below are specific to Columns view.

7) Press right arrow to enter your Home folder then down arrow to the Music Folder.

8) Press Right arrow to enter the Music Folder. That should put you on the Audio Music apps folder. If it doesn’t put you on the Audio Music Apps folder use Up or down arrows to find the Audio Music Apps folder.

9) Once on the Audio Music Apps folder right arrow to enter it and down arrow to the Patches folder.

10) Once on the patches folder right arrow into it and down arrow to the Instrument folder

11) Once on the Instrument folder, Press Command V to paste the DLB Patches folder into the Instrument folder.

This completes putting the patches where they need to be.

Now we’ll put the modifier presets in the appropriate location for them to be used by Logic.

1) if still in finder press Command Option L to return to the download folder. Otherwise press command tab until you are back in the Finder, or Press VO Shift D to go to the desktop. Once in Finder or the desktop press Command Option L to return to the download folder.

2) Up or down arrow and again find the DLB Patches From TheBlindLogicPro folder.

3) Press Right arrow to go into the folder, then down arrow to the modifier folder.

4) Press Command C to copy that folder.

5) Press Command Shift H to open the Home folder.

6) Press right arrow to go into your home folder then down arrow to the Music folder.

7) Press Right arrow to enter the Music Folder. That should put you on the Audio Music apps folder. If it doesn’t put you on the Audio Music Apps folder use Up or down arrows to find the Audio Music Apps folder.

8) Once on the Audio Music Apps folder right arrow to enter it and down arrow to the Plug-In Settings folder.

9) Press Command V to paste the Modifier Folder into the Plug-In Settings folder. If you get a dialog asking you to stop, merge or replace, select merge. If it only gives you the stop or replace options, select replace. If it gives you no options it will just paste the folder.

Now both folders are ready for use in Logic Pro. If you prefer to use Finder in list view you can switch it back to list view with Command 2, though personally I prefer Columns view.

In Logic if you select an instrument track, then go into the user patches in the. Library, you should find the DLB patches folder. In there you will find two sub folders or sub categories, one named DLB Brainwave Entrainment, and another called DLB Calming Synths. Inside of either will be patches for you to explore and use in your projects. The read me file in the DLB Patches From TheBlindLogicPro folder in your downloads folder should have more info on the various patches.

The modifier presets are found if you load the Modifier MIDI effect on a track in Logic Pro. If using Logic Magician, you can load the MIDI effect with Shift equal. If not using Logic Magician the MIDI effects are found before the Instrument on a software instrument track and is added to a track in a similar manner as adding any other effect or instrument to a track.

Got any questions, leave a comment and let us know.

Reasons To Use The Event List Instead Of The Piano Roll

Two Reasons You May Want To Use The Event List

TheOreoMonster

In a previous post, we discussed the difference between the Piano Roll and Event List. This time out we’ll look at a specific reason you may want to use the Event List for accessibility reasons.

The first of the two reasons we’ll discuss is that in the Piano Roll, there doesn’t appear as of this writing and tutorial to be an accessible way to see non MIDI note events in the Piano Roll. Things like sustain pedal information doesn’t accessibly show up in the Piano Roll. While it’s possible to convert sustain pedal data into note length as one of the options under the Piano Roll’s function menu, It may still be preferred to access that data as is or to see other non note MIDI data. In this case the Event List will be the place to Look.

Another reason to consider using the Event List, is that adding a MIDI note or event to a blank MIDI region doesn’t seem to work via a key Command in the Piano roll. The key command however does work in the Event List. So it’s possible to create a blank MIDI region with Control Option Shift Command M, select the blank MIDI region, open the Event List with Command 7, Hit Control Option Shift Command E to add a new note or event at the playhead. By default it drops a C3 note at the playhead. To change this from dropping a MIDI note to dropping controller DATA of some kind, find the create new event pop up button and select the appropriate option from the menu.

The tutorial then goes on to show how in the Piano Roll, to transpose, copy and paste that one note throughout the region to build out a part. While this was demonstrated with a drum part, it could be used for any instrument you have a part in mind for and would like to input manually.

Why may you want to put in MIDI notes or data manually? Perhaps, you don’t have a MIDI keyboard available? The part is more complex than you are able to play in? You find the Musical typing Keyboard too cumbersome? The reason are many, but entering the MIDI manually this way is another option.

Next up, we’ll discuss how the Event List could be made to be a little easier to use as it can get a bit annoying to use with VoiceOver as of this writing.

Remember for more tutorials on the Event List and the Piano Roll, check out this playlist.

Daily Accountability Song 1 Part 8 Continuing With THe Intro Drums

This edition continues with building the drums for the intro of the song.

TheOreoMonster

This edition continues with building the drums for the intro of the song. Once we get that done we can start working on building out the parts that the remaining regions will play.

What is the Difference Between The Event List And The Piano Roll For Blind Logic Pro Users With VoiceOver

Does Logic Magician Enhancements Give the Piano Roll An Edge Over The Event List or Are There Still Reasons To Use Both?

TheOreoMonster

Ever wondered what the difference is between the Piano Roll and the Event List when it comes to editing or manipulating mIDI notes and events. This tutorial discuss the basics of how each works and just how similar they can in the end.

The Event List is laid out like a table. Each row in the table as you navigate with VO Up and Down, is a MIDI Note or event. As you VO Left/Right across the different columns, you will find information on said note or MIDI event, like it’s position in the time line, which note it is, it’s velocity and it’s length.

For some time now the event list has been a bit of a hassle to use with VoiceOver, mostly due to it sounding the note every time you navigate and VoiceOver speaks. If you are still using default VoiceOver settings it will most likely sound the note multiple times as it will not only sound the note when you navigate to each item with VoiceOver, but again when VoiceOver’s hints speak as well. There will be a tutorial on how you can minimize this by disabling all the VoiceOver hints.

The Piano Roll is laid out from left to right like a piano keyboard. As you navigate with left and right arrows it sounds the notes in the order they appear. If you have Logic Magician enabled, you can set it to also speak the note name, or velocity value as you navigate with left and right arrows. In the tutorial its set to speak the note name. You can also disable this feature inLogic Magician so it only sounds the note and doesn’t speak like it does when Logic Magician is disabled. If you navigate with VO Left and Right arrows it will speak the position of the note and the name of the note without sounding the note. Logic Magician also enhances a lot more functionality of the Piano Roll by adding the ability to quickly hear and adjust velocity among other parameters efficiently. For everything you can do with Logic Magician in the Piano Roll, see the Piano Roll section in the Logic Magician documentation. You can download your copy on the Logic Magician page.

Ultimately, when to use the Piano Roll vs the Event List, really comes down to workflow and which one you prefer. Most anything you can do in one you can do in the other. As of this writing and tutorial being recorded, if you want to easily edit non note MIDI DATA, like sustain pedal info, you may want to use the Event List, but for most other tasks, it really comes down to user preference. However, lately with Logic Magician enhancements, It’s usually the piano roll for me.

There are however reasons you may want to use the Event List over The Piano Roll and we’ll cover that in the next tutorial.

If you got any questions about working with or editing MIDI data, then check out this playlist of Piano Roll tutorials.

Daily Accountability Song 1 Part 6 Lets Arrange the song using Locators

Set your Left and right locators around the section of the song you want to work with and use the following key commands to work with what’s between the locators

TheOreoMonster

Set your Left and right locators around the section of the song you want to work with and use the following key commands to work with what’s between the locators

Copy between locators is Connand Control C

Paste insert (Moves what’s at the playhead to the right to make room for what’s pasted) Command Control V

Repeat between locators Command Control R

Set Left Locator At playhead Option Command Left Bracket

Set Right Locator at playhead Option Command Right Bracket

Go To Left Locator Option Command Home

Go To Right Locator Option Command End

Move Forward by 8 bars Shift Period

Move back by 8 bars Shift Comma

See an in depth tutorial on how useful Locators can be here.

How TO Use A Delay On A Send Featuring EchoBoy Jr and Logic Magician

In this tutorial See a real world example of how to use sends including the Control Tab feature for quickly adding a send to a track and quickly adding a plug in to that send, plus how to go between the aux track and the track that is sending to it.

LogicBand

In this tutorial See a real world example of how to use sends including the Control Tab feature for quickly adding a send to a track and quickly adding a plug in to that send, plus how to go between the aux track and the track that is sending to it.

Non members can see the Logic Magician tutorials on how to add a send to a track, and how control tab works.
